DARUDE REVISITS HIS ICONIC ‘SANDSTORM’ WITH THE FIRST OFFICIAL REMIX IN OVER 20 YEARS

The Finnish dance music icon reworks his career-defining classic from the inside out, introducing the ‘Sandstorm Storm 25 Mix’ — a bold new interpretation created by the original artist himself.

September 2026 — Darude has revisited ‘Sandstorm’ from the inside out. Reworked by the original creator himself, ‘Sandstorm Storm 25 Mix’ marks the track’s first official remix in more than 20 years, giving the Finnish artist the opportunity to reshape one of electronic music’s most recognisable records entirely on his own terms.

Across more than 25 years, ‘Sandstorm’ has inspired hundreds of unofficial edits, mashups and bootlegs. Yet despite countless attempts to rework the track, few have managed to reinterpret its unmistakable lead melody without compromising what made the original so iconic. Its instantly recognisable lead line and chord progression are so deeply intertwined with the track’s identity that even some of the most experienced producers have preferred to leave it untouched rather than risk altering what has made it so universally loved.

With more than 1 billion global streams, numerous Gold and Platinum certifications, and over 322 million views on its equally iconic official music video, ‘Sandstorm’ remains an inescapable force in contemporary culture.

Its impact extends far beyond dance music. The track has become a global sporting anthem, used to energise audiences around major events including the FIFA World Cup, NFL, Copa América and the 2024 Paris Olympics. At the same time, ‘Sandstorm’ has become deeply embedded in internet culture and gaming, featuring across titles and platforms including EA Sports, Fortnite and Dota.

With such an enduring cultural footprint, it is only fitting that the first official remix of ‘Sandstorm’ in more than two decades comes from the man who created it.

Darude’s Storm 25 Mix originated from a live-set rework developed specifically for his STORM 25 worldwide anniversary tour, celebrating 25 years of music and selections from the Finnish producer’s extensive catalogue.

For the remix project, Darude began by recreating the original version of ‘Sandstorm’ with meticulous precision, rebuilding it down to the very last hi-hat and Supersaw pad. From there, he took the track apart and approached its key sonic elements from a completely new perspective, rebuilding them from scratch to create the Storm 25 Mix.

The track’s iconic core melody remains intact, but is now surrounded by bigger big-room energy, melodic techno influences in the drop and cinematic orchestral textures throughout the breakdown, creating a contemporary interpretation while preserving the DNA of the original.

“Sandstorm has such an incredible life of its own and, honestly, I’m just grateful people are still dancing to it,” says Darude. “So many talented people have taken their own swing at it, while a lot of producers I admire have told me it’s simply too risky to touch. But this one is personal. It’s the track that started everything for me and my career, and after 25 years, it felt like the right time to take it somewhere new. That, and to see how hard I can make it hit on a dancefloor in 2026!”

With the Storm 25 Mix, Darude returns to the track that changed his life — not to replace the original, but to explore what ‘Sandstorm’ can become when its creator finally gives himself permission to reimagine it.
